Review:

Better understanding of existing wetlands in the Andalusian was the main reason for the Workshop of Research Groups for water management of Andalusian wetlands, which was held in Baeza (Jaén), in May 2007. This conference was organized by the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME), the Ministry of Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, and by the Associated IGME - UMA Unit (University of Málaga), and were directed to different research groups universities, public research institutions, government and researchers in the field of Earth Sciences who could bring their studies and experiences with Andalusian wetlands. This form of participation, networking and debate among research groups and environmental managers is an excellent tool for achieving the main objective of the meeting: to deepen the functions and values of wetlands Andalusians, trying to promote its importance as pilot areas research areas for conducting methodological studies, and environmental attractions in the management and research. In conclusion, wetlands are a unique natural heritage that needs protection from the various public administrations and to this end, a series of scientific knowledge to facilitate the proper management of these aquatic ecosystems are needed. This is the ultimate aim pursued by the publication presented here.
